ONE DAY: B&W Film Photography (Level One)

Without colour, a black and white photograph shows texture, contrast, shape and form, and an emotional resonance or potency not present in colour images. As well, the material of the film is archival and virtually lasts forever without decay or damage to the image. No wonder that many leading photographers still prefer black and white film, especially for their personal work.

In this workshop students cover all aspects of black and white photography, from camera exposure to film processing and print making in the darkroom. After discussing technical guidelines for shooting with black and white film, the teacher guides students through their own photo shoots, with studio lights and outside, before leading a hands-on darkroom lesson in film development and the basics of the black and white print.
