EVENING COURSE: PAINTING WITH LIGHT
EVENING WORKSHOP
(6pm-8.30pm)
David Game College
£75
This is an exciting and spontaneous evening workshop, designed to show you how to use simple lighting materials from camera and hand held flashes to torch flashlights and make fun and dynamic images that are compelling in their unpredictability.
Since this is an intensive one-off workshop lasting two and a half hours, students must be confident in knowing how to use their own digital cameras on manual settings, with shutter speeds of up to 30 seconds at different ISO settings. Cameras must have and in-built flash or a hot shoe.
Using the blacked-out studio classroom at the college, students will be shown how to produce funky and exciting multiple images from flash, as well as the dynamic use of ‘painting with light’ using small but powerful battery torches (provided).
It is helpful if you wear dark clothers and a dark jumper over a white shirt to the workshop. Masks, and dark and light materials (including coloured gels and sparklers!) will be provided to help produce a set of different long exposure images.
Set to funky music, the quick and fast paced exercises done in this workshop are fun, energetic and safe, and contain the certain magical mystery of never knowing what you will actually achieve until you see the results.
Especially for parents: this is a perfect mini-training of simply wonderful photo effects to duplicate with your children at home, and teaches you a kind of modern light show (using everyday materials) that will thrill your kids for many evenings through the winter months!
