B&W PRINTING AS A FINE ART
8 week WORKSHOP
(6pm-8.30pm)
David Game College
£375
The goal of this workshop is to enable students with a commitment to black and white film photography to produce a cohesive portfolio of high quality fiber-based prints.
The black and white silver print, when produced to archival standards, is the most stable of all photographic media, lasting for centuries. Learn the correct archival dilutions and chemistry for wet print processing, and costs and availability of materials.
Through introduction to the Zone System and associated film and paper tests, you can determine the optimum film ISO and development time for films and papers, producing full-tone negatives to obtain rich contrast prints. These tests are undertaken weekly at the College to assist those who don’t yet have use of their own darkroom.
This is not a beginner’s course; students are requested to bring their own negatives and fiber paper with which to work, and time is allocated to developing new film every week. The course is an advanced version of the one-day ‘Introduction to Black & White Printing’ workshop, and students can start with the negatives form this course, and must shoot new 35mm film on a weekly basis. The cost of film/print processing is included in the price of the course.
