Using multi-grade resin coated paper, students work on their images in the darkroom with the aim of producing several good quality final prints. Learn how film and paper exposure and development determine shadow and highlight detail separately in both film and print, and general darkroom techniques.
The teacher will show their professional portfolio to students, and discuss the different techniques used to achieve the best presentation print. Equipment and processes will be explained for those who are interested in setting up a black and white darkroom at home. Black and white photography is not an expensive pursuit, and controlling all aspects of development and printing is both a real pleasure, and the way to maximise image quality.
Examples of the work of leading photographers and their black and white images will be shown and discussed, with emphasis on how the choice of the black and white medium is often more effective and powerful than use of colour.
This is a good mid way workshop between the one-day black & white photography course, and the 8 week class, ‘Black and White Printing as a Fine Art.
