The IMAGE WORKSHOPS photography school is the brainchild of James Bartholomew, Director of Photography. An internationally published professional photographer and author with over 20 years' experience in Fine Art and commercial photography, James is uniquely experienced in both photographic education and key skill recruitment for top working photographers who want to pass on their talents.
For James, serious photography is a window that shows a person’s relationship to the world, and also to themselves.
“You can come on these courses if you only want to take better snapshots, and that’s fine. I respect everyone's different expectations of what using their camera means to them, and what memories they want to create from the photos they make.
“But on a deeper level, photography can become a development of more than visual awareness, that also reflects things – and values and meanings - both outside and inside yourself:
“Simple curiosity or visual interest becomes a way of looking for meaning, which develops into whole new ways of seeing things. It’s a kind of reflective philosophy that doesn’t stop, once you’ve opened your mind as well as your eyes. The camera in the end just becomes a simple extension of your eye in your hands, once you go beyond just looking and start to see.”
